New Delhi: Chris Gayle's debut was very impressive in the IPL 2018 and he made a comeback in three consecutive matches as he came in this season. Ness Wadia has said in one of his statements that the money was almost near by his franchisees. In such a situation, when Gale's name was reintroduced in the last round of the auction, he was felicitated with Gayle. According to Wadia, he was fortunate enough that no other team made the bid, if any other team started bidding at that time then he would lose Gayle due to lack of funds. Chris Gayle's base price was 2 crores and Punjab bought them on this amount.

Ness Wadia said, 'we had only 2.1 crore survivors. We were fortunate that none of the teams came forward to bid for Gayle and our bid won. ' Prior to the IPL auction, Punjab had reacted only to one player and it was Akshar Patel. Every team had the exemption to retain three players but Punjab did not do this because they wanted to build the team after looking at the future with a fresh start. The reason being that he had a budget of Rs 67.5 crore for the auction and he spent the entire money he spent.
